Picasso and Pizza

Holy Moly, today started off early.  Mack was sound asleep last night at 6:00.  By 12:42 a.m. she was wide awake.  Remember that old EF Hutton commercial?  When Mack speaks, everybody listens.  When Mack is awake, everyone is awake.  Well at least her bed mate was also awake.  Her terrible mom told her to just play iPad until she was sleepy again and then slept with pillow over her head.  I know, right?  Well, both kids were sorta asleep on and off but the pillow on my head kinda muffled all that.  By 4:30 I was awake.  By 5:30 I was showered and waiting for my family. The weird thing is that the bakery we wanted to eat at didn't open until 7:30 for breakfast.  Seems late to me for a city that never sleeps.  C'mon, you gotta feed the family that never sleeps, people!  The waiting paid off.  The yummy breakfast made up for it for sure.  Freshly baked breads, delish tea, hot cocoa made with warm frothed milk, and an eggless fritata.
Yes, I took a picture of it.  You knew I would.

After we ate, we took a short walk through Central Park in the 46 degree temps.  It was brisk for sure.  Just enough to make us miss our beds and back to them we went. Well, not Fiona.  She is struggling to sleep with the city sounds.  Give her a rooster and she is fine.  A honking taxi cab, another story.  What ever she did lasted until 11:00 when we all woke up again and were ready for our next adventure.

The next adventure of the day led us to Rockerfeller Center. We (and 50,000 other people) enjoyed some warm sunshine and some shopping. Mostly window shopping but still...

We visited the St. Patrick's Cathedral as well.  Goodness it is beautiful. As I have been searching for my own faith, I have found a renewed appreciation for holy places. Even if not the religion I practice.  Such an amazing feeling for people to feel connected to their higher power.  This was a beautiful place for them to do that.

We headed back to our hotel for about 20 minutes and then were off again!  This time we would make our way through central park and over to The Met.
Yes, a long walk with a baby dragon.  A tired baby dragon. Then, we planned to give her a cultural education while she was super receptive to it.  Ha.  This child was mad before we even got there.  But, like I have said before.  She is hard anywhere, so we drag her everywhere.  Might as well experience the world while we teach her how to be a part of it.  Anyway, The Met was amazing.  We come from such a tiny place with such a different cultural offering.  We had burgers for lunch and then spent the evening with Picasso, Rembrandt, and DaVinci.  Not in a book!  On the wall right in front of us.  Fiona was overjoyed and inspired.  Mack, well...well, let's just say she gave me a list of some really funny quotes for the day.  Shall I share them with you?
1. In a room full of ancient Greek Statues..."Mom, why is everything in here broken?"
2. "Imagine someone doing the floss in that." (Indonesian Full Body Mask)
3. Would you rather have him (scary mask) come to life or him (other scary mask)?
4."Who drew that?"  (Picasso painting)
5. "Mom! Was that made in a 3D copy machine?

I will let you imagine the comments about the body parts on the statues.  It was just all kinds of potty mouth fun with her.  It is an overwhelmingly large museum and we squeezed out what we could in a couple hours.

The walk back from the Met was met with more excitement about walking.  Trudge trudge trudge down 5th Avenue toward The Plaza.  Seeing The Plaza gave us hope!  Last stop...Angelo's pizza.  Well, Starbucks after.  It was a lovely day. We saw a lot. We ate a lot. We walked a lot.  Sounds a lot like a Godsill adventure.

Tomorrow we will be adventuring to a new place.  I'll share it with you after if you decide you'd like to come along again tomorrow.  For now, I'll join my sleeping family in enjoying the noises of this city while I sleep.  And for goodness sake, I hope I don't have kids up at 1 playing iPad.
