When In Rome

I’ll start our blog today by wishing us a Happy 25th Anniversary. Pretty cool to get to celebrate that in Rome.

That’s us on a bus! To Rome! Yesterday we walked to the bus station as a dry run before we had to be there early this morning. That meant that our departure was smooth. We grabbed coffee and brioche to go and made our way down the cobblestone streets back out into the other part of the world outside the wall. The bus was easy to catch and the 3 hour ride let me get caught up on an audio book. Easy morning. And then…

We were looking for bus H. There were no platforms with an H except on a map we found that led us way down the street to an another bus stop that had no H also. We headed back to the bus station looking for platform B to find bus H while we WTF’d. We walked back and forth multiple times. It just didn’t make sense. Finally we asked a man for some help and he was super helpful in Italian but pointing to the bus area right behind us where there was in fact an H bus that would arrive in 10 minutes. Ten hot minutes in a crowd that was growing. Bus came! It was the right bus. Then getting on, it wouldn’t validate our bus tickets which meant we were basically riding the bus for free which carries a heavy fine if someone came around to check the ticket. No one did! We were completely sardined on the bus. Luckily Brian was next to a sweet Italian lady who helped him find our stop. It was hectic!!We ended up at our destination where we checked into our place in Trestevere. Brian did good again on the accommodations!

It is in a super cute area near winding cobblestone streets that look a lot like Siena!

We wandered out for some lunch and some looking around but didn’t stay out all that long because we both needed a mini rest and some time to look at maps and make a plan.

We really didn’t do much sight seeing today. Just a few pictures of things that caught my eye.

Tomorrow morning we have a super early tour of The Vatican followed by an afternoon visit to the Pantheon. Looking forward to getting this Rome party started! I’ll finish with photos of our anniversary dinner. Yummy.

Happy Anniversary to us. Here’s to many more years of getting lost on vacation together!
