We have officially hit culture shock. Fiona was really uncomfortable today. Japan was different, but was tidy and organized. Bangkok is more chaotic and disorganized and it freaked her out a bit. On our walk this evening I told her that this is part of her world education so she doesn't think the world is like the bubble she lives in now.
We started the day in the pool. After our breakfast at Starbucks of course. The girls were in heaven. Mack could not wait to get in the water.

Just before she ruined the moment. |
After our swim (aka bathing when Godsills vacation), we gathered our selves and headed for the water taxi. We were on our way to The Temple of the Emerald Buddah or Wat Phra Kaew.

The boat ride was long and stressful for Mack. She falls asleep when she needs to check out for a while. |
It took us a while on the hot boats but we made it. We got off the boat along with many other pushy people and began our approach to the temple. People were trying to sell us fans, hats, pants, food, and many other things. It was was like real life Crossy Road only we were dodging street vendors. We found a great restaurant called Krisa, and had some really great Pad Thai. Even Fiona ate it. I don't know if I liked the food better or the AC break from the sweltering heat. After eating we headed to the line of people crowding the entrance to the temple.
We found out that out of respect, Brian could not go inside in shorts and Fiona's scarf wasn't opaque enough to hide her shoulders. We hit up a street vendor for a shirt for Fiona and some super bitchen' pants for Brian and then we made our way back into the long line of people. It was a second round of pushing our way through the crowd. It was worth it.
We couldn't believe how amazingly beautiful the temple and palace were. The photos I took do not come close to showing how huge and beautiful it all was. With humidity factored in, it was almost 100 degrees. It was wall to wall people pushing us from all sides. I had a hard time being in such a breathtaking and peaceful place, only to be surrounded by chaos. It really took away from what I had hoped to gain from my visit. We were dripping with sweat and the girls were trudging along with us. Fiona was enjoying the sights and Mack, well she just wasn't. I can only imagine the sensory overload she experienced today. We kept reminding her of the pool waiting for her after this experience in melting.
You know our day ended at the pool right? It's the Godsill bath! After our late day swim, we wandered down to an open-air mall called Asiatique The Riverfront. We had some dinner, did some window shopping, dragged Mack around, and then headed home. All of us tired and done with crowds for the day. Tomorrow we leave for the airport late morning and are flying up to Chiang Mai. We figured 2 nights in Bangkok is plenty. Here are the last of the photos. It was a full day. Full of beautiful adventure, and way too many people having their own.
