Brrrr

Today we got some fall weather. It was high 50’s this morning when we walked to grab some breakfast. It was a brisk walk, but it felt good. The weather has been so mild in this trip. It was nice to feel a touch of fall. We had a yummy breakfast at another Tatte bakery. I’ve been the dork who photographs her food on this trip.

Brian’s aunt, uncle, and cousin drove to meet us for lunch out Kendall Square. Walked by the water for a bit and had a look at MIT as we passed by. It was brrr cold for us, but it felt nice in the sun.
We had a great visit, some good lunch, and an awesome hangout with Koda the dog. Mack said he is the softest dog in the world. After we parted ways, we checked out a mall for a few minutes. I think I’m over shopping. We headed over to Harvard square next. Mack was not on board with another stop. I think she may be just done totally. I think it’s time to take this child home.

We had dinner reservations for an outside table in Little Italy. It has been the happening spot this week. We were bundled up and I envisioned heating lamps outside. Nope. We sat outside in 57 enjoying our dinner the best we could.

Our evening ended with another visit to modern pastry. One more for the road!
Now back to the hotel! It’s time to head home.
We have had a great trip. We got to see friends, family, and Broadway shows. We got to eat lobster, pasta, and cannoli. We got to smell subway urine, salty sea air, and warm coffee. We got to hear horns honking , buses, and heavy machinery. We got to feel soft alpacas and the cold Atlantic Ocean. Our senses are satisfied and it’s time to go home.

Mario and Luigi

There are three very tired people in this hotel room with me tonight. We had a great, long day.

We started our day in Boston Public Market. What a find. Found some healthy breakfast, good coffee, and a great tea.

Wandered around the marina for a bit this morning while we waited for Charity to bring Max and Mack back to pick us up. It was a beautiful, warm morning.

Our plan for the day was to check out Northeastern, get Fiona fitted for pointe shoes, and then off to mini golf and go-karts! I got the cutest text from Mack on their way to pick us up.
We made our way to Wellesley where Fiona had an appointment at a dance store. The lady in the shop was very sweet and got Fiona fitted in a couple really nice pairs of shoes. I’m glad we were able to do that. It’s hard getting shoes on Kauai. They are always on back order…
Max and Mack were very patient. It was time for their part of the day next! They had an hour on the trampoline park and then three go-kart races.

Fi didn’t want to race. She wanted to hang with the beautiful baby who is being cared for by Charity. What a beauty. Fi 100% enjoyed this baby cuddle over racing. Much cheaper too!

After the chaos of this kid date, we grabbed some dinner and they dropped us back at the hotel. It’s always hard to say goodbye. I hate how sometimes we cross paths with people whom we immediately know and love, but we cannot be with them all the time. I loved our time with them today. Grateful to know Charity. I wish you could too. She is one of those people who makes you a better person just because you know them.
In typical Godsill adventure fashion, Brian and I left the girls in the hotel and ran out to grab a wee dessert and a cuppa. He wanted to go to Modern Pastry so he could do a taste comparison between Mikes and Modern on the cannoli. The line looked like this…

It was a long line, but it moved fast.
I opted for a chocolate dipped strawberry. After conducting the taste test, Brian wasn’t really able to taste a difference between them.
Now it’s snore time. Not for me. I’m the night owl who likes to write about our day while everyone else sleeps. I enjoy sharing our travels, but mostly I enjoy going back and rereading them.
Tomorrow we visit family and get ready to return home. Love to travel and I love to go back home.

Boston College

Today started early. Fiona had a 10:00 visit scheduled with Boston College. This meant an early breakfast and some extra coaxing to get one of our group out of bed. One of us wasn’t as excited about another college tour. Little did she know that when dad went down to Dunkin to get bagels, mom had him get some donut holes to hide in mom’s backpack for later when she needed to pull out some magic.

Our ride on The T was a bit longer today but went smoothly. We got to Boston College and Mack and I found our bench. I was under the impression that Brian and Fi would be an hour. It ended up being 2 hours. We watched TikToks as long as we could, she happily ate a few donut holes, played on her switch, and then she had had it with waiting. Luckily her horns were surfacing just as her sister was finishing up.

Back on the T to get some lunch. We went to Copley Square and headed to Eataly. Fiona had was she said was the best pasta she has ever had. Nice to love your meal that much isn’t it? The food was good. The market was adorable. Made me miss living near a big city.

Mack was stoked today to be invited to sleep over with my friend Charity’s son,Max. Mack and Max have grown up together in parallel worlds. Their paths have only crossed twice but you would never know it. His mom and I became friends online with a huge group of other ladies going through IVF shortly after Fiona was born. We have all been close friends ever since and we live for our IRL meetups whenever we can. Charity and I have been good friends for about 14/15 years and have only seen each other in person 3 times. Crazy right?

While Mack was off playing, we roamed the area with Fi and did some shopping. Grabbed a little dinner and have just been hanging out at the hotel. It was a pretty good day. Visiting schools has been busy. Tomorrow we are driving over to Northeastern and then hanging with Charity and Max. Tonight Brian gets a break from Mack beating him up while they sleep. She is too much of a bed bully to share with Fiona. Ha.

Boston U

A morning of sleeping in again! I know my idea of sleeping in is different than some of you. Nevertheless, I think I love blackout curtains.

After rounding up our children this morning, we trekked across town to a super cute bakery. Tatte. It’s Yiddish for Daddy. They had beautiful pastries and lots of patrons. I’m not really a pastry for breakfast person, but my chocolate rose bun and my savory scone weren’t too bad. The amazing cobblestone streets and adorable Halloween decorations weren’t too bad either!

After breakfast we wandered through Boston Common…which.I.love! We were partly looking at the area and partly looking for a public restroom. They are hard to come by in the city. I get it. There is a large homeless population in big cities and public bathrooms can be problematic. But, for puppy-bladder people like me- necessary. We counted squirrels, video’d funny ducks, and just had a good time walking around this dreamy city.

We made our way back to our hotel when we couldn’t find a bathroom. Mack was ready for a break, but I was ready to go get in a little bit of shopping before our 1:30 appointment at Boston University. Fi and I booked it over to Old Navy so I could peruse the sale racks. Bought a few fun things and rushed back to grab Brian and Mack and head to The T to get to the university.

The tour was great and longer than a little sister was hoping. We learned lots about the school and walked around with a group for about 45 minutes. Fiona is in love with this area. I think seeing the campus, the students, and hearing our student tour guide talk about college made her excited about this next phase. She’s only a junior so she has some time to really figure out what she wants. I mentioned before that this is so far away from home…but also, I love it here.

After the tour we did a few stops. Muji, Trader Joe’s, and Copley Square to name a few. The girls and I had a candy bar for lunch at 4 which was pretty awesome and headed back to the hotel for a 20 minute rest before heading out for dinner and a cannoli from famous Mike’s Pastry.

Tomorrow we wake early and head to Boston College for the next tour. This time only Brian is allowed to accompany her due to Covid. I get the super exciting task of keeping Mack from exploding on a college campus. I simply cannot wait.
