All we do is drive and starve. -MG

She isn’t wrong. Maybe wee bit dramatic. We have been traveling around a lot and meals have been on a different schedule. Balancing out young women’s needs and wants with a man’s needs and wants is a bit challenging. He wants to see one more thing real quick before looking for a place to eat and they want something different.

Today was a day just like that. We woke and packed up before our 9:00 departure on the Skellig Michael tour boat. The girls wanted some food first so we popped into the market across  the street and they suffered through a store bought muffin and a danish. Then we were off!

Skellig Michael is a monastery about a 50 minute boast ride from Portmagee. Monks arrived there in the 6th to 8th century and had an ever present danger of Viking invasion. It was a pretty choppy boat ride. It was a good weather and good tide day. I can’t imagine it on a bad day. Mack held a just- in-case bucket. I gave the girls and myself some seasick meds so basically we would be drowsy but not barfing.

First thing we saw out there was a puffin! I’ve never seen one! They are much smaller than I expected and so cute.

There are 618 steps to climb to get to the monastery. They are not juts steps. The are rocks of varying degrees of slippery and dangerous next to cliffs that have no railings. I was mostly worried about how spicy the youngest Godsill was being. I was literally talking her off the ledge.

The steps led up to an amazing area. I think there were 11 monks who lived there at one time. Not sure I would ever want to live out there like that.

Cool fact. They used this location when filming Star Wars.

And now, this is when I admit that I am too tired to keep writing. I will finish up with pictures and bid you a goodnight.
