Steam Trains and Ferries

Today was a travel day. Like all day. Woke at 4 and were on the road by 5 this morning headed north. I am burning the midnight oil now and this blog post will be short as I am the only one not sleeping. Not that’s it’s really different. I have laundry in the machine and a waiting. I love places with laundry!

It’s good we left early today because we wouldn’t have had time for suck at being a copilot abroad. My perimenopausal brain mixed with converting the left right direction thing made me really bad at my job. We did about 45 minutes of Annie tours before we were saved by Fiona and on our way. Those damn traffic circles.

We headed up to Glenfinnan aqueduct to catch a glimpse of the Hogwarts steam train as it traveled by.  The train was expected to pass by 10:45 and we had a three hour drive. It was such a beautiful drive!

We arrived at about 9:15 to the parking area that was quickly filling up. We geared up in our rain gear and headed for the hills.  I was expecting there to be a few other people, but got a bit of a surprise once we started heading down the trial and up the side of the muddy hill. Initially Brian was guessing it was about 150 people and it was definitely more than that when we headed back down.

This part of the blog will be written in high speed. I need sleep.

Had some lunch, headed to Mallaig and loaded our car on the ferry. We are now on The Isle of Skye. Fun fact, it’s larger than Kauai. It has been raining all day. We didn’t arrive until 5. Laid low for a bit, scavenged  some dinner from the Coop market, and did some laundry. Now sleep. Thanks for following along! I’ll get some pictures of this area tomorrow.
